Typical Fan Coil (FCU/2) Installation

Bipolar Ionisers for Fan Coil Units (FCUs)

Install PurAire bipolar ionisation inside an existing fan coil unit to provide continuous odour treatment through the room’s own air-conditioning airflow — ideal for hotel guest rooms, serviced apartments and offices.

Why Install Bipolar Ionisation Inside the FCU?

The fan coil is already moving air throughout the room — so it is the ideal place to introduce continuous air treatment.

In hotels, serviced apartments and offices, the fan coil unit continually recirculates conditioned air through the occupied space. Installing a bipolar ioniser inside the FCU allows the existing airflow to distribute positive and negative ions throughout the room whenever the fan coil operates.  There is no additional room-side appliance, no loss of floor space and nothing visible to guests or occupants.

For hotel guest rooms in particular, this provides a discreet way to help control recurring musty, tobacco, food and other occupancy odours through the existing air-conditioning system.

This is the exact configuration used in the two verified Singapore case studies — a five-star serviced apartment and a four-star hotel – both eliminated chronic mouldy-mildewy odours quickly using this installation method.

Results from individual installations can vary depending on room conditions, moisture sources, FCU condition, airflow and the source of the odour.

Dual-Tube Bipolar Ionisation for Fan Coil Units

PurAire SG-FCU/2

Engineered specifically for seamless integration into medium-capacity Fan Coil Units (FCU) and central air-con ductwork, the FCU/2 utilizes dual high-output Glass DBD tubes to continuously clean and sanitize circulating air. It is ideal for commercial building managers, hotel operators, and office facilities teams looking to eliminate mould and mildew odours, stale odours from those “problem rooms” to put them back into sellable condition quietly, affordably and discretely.

Fits inside a medium-capacity fan coil unit and treats the room that the fan coil serves. The FCU/2 has adjustable ionisation levels and can be interlocked with the FCU fan or operated using an airflow switch, allowing bipolar ionisation to be distributed through the existing room air supply whenever the FCU operates.

For a whole building treated from the plant room instead, see the in-duct SG-BPI range.

PurAire SG-FCU/3 triple-tube bipolar ioniser for fan coil units
Triple-Tube Higher Capacity HVAC & FCU Ionisation

PurAire SG-FCU/3

Featuring a heavy-duty triple-tube configuration, the FCU/3 is built for high-airflow Fan Coil Units and larger-scale central air conditioning systems. It delivers greater ion density to tackle higher volumes of circulating air and tougher environmental pollutants. Perfect for larger hotel guest rooms and suites, VIP rooms, commercial complexes, high-traffic institutional spaces, and expansive office floors demanding continuous air purification and deodorisation.

Suited to larger fan coil units serving open-plan floors, function rooms and institutional spaces, where there is more air to treat than a two-tube unit can cover.

The FCU/3 also features an adjustable ionisation output control, and can be interlocked with the FCU fan or operated using an airflow switch, allowing bipolar ionisation to be distributed through the existing room air supply whenever the FCU operates.

What Is a Fan Coil Unit Bipolar Ioniser?

A fan coil unit (FCU) bipolar ioniser is installed inside the FCU or its supply-air section.

When the fan operates, air passes across the ionisation tubes and carries positive and negative ions into the room served by the fan coil.

PurAire SG-FCU models can be interlocked with the FCU or operated using an airflow switch so that ionisation operates with the air-conditioning system.
